“A man sees in the world what he carries in his heart.”
-Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Do you have a big, beautiful, bodacious dream languishing in the recesses of your mind?
We all do. Sometimes we don’t actually believe we can have it, but the niggling idea is still there.
I love watching people bring a long wished for and worked for dream made manifest. It could be a marathon (like my friend Shari when she participated in the Ironman). It could be a health struggle overcome (like my friend Rita who’s halfway there with Lyme!). Maybe becoming fluent in another sexy language (like my friend Laura who’s mastered Spanish).
The year is soon coming to a close and it’s that time again when many of us feel the urge to review the year past and set intentions for the year ahead.
What do you dream of? What did you, once again, put on that “one day” list? There is no time like now. What if you suspended any disbelief or excuses and just moved forward boldly in the direction of one super-cool-make-you-pee-your-pants dream?
My favourite guy Dr. Joe (Dispenza) says to rehearse everyday the person you will be in the midst of that dream. What will it feel like, look like, sound like, smell like?
Make a call. Do the research. Fill out the application. Find the mentor. Start the savings account and name it “My Big Bold Dream 2014.”
As Goethe stated: “Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it!”
I’d love to read about your big dream here under comments. Sometimes just “confessing” brings action.
I’ve been working on a dream—a new website—for quite some time. It’s morphed many times and likely will yet again.
It began as the ‘Fundraiser Café’ with the lofty goal of partnering with cancer organizations to raise funds for hands-on work with patients. Have you ever tried working with non-profits? I went to many meetings and learned that the red-tape factor behind giving is absurdly difficult. So I gave up on that.
The site was discussed and debated with my school coach and mentors as well as our visiting class speakers and has been postponed by two typhoons and one epic flood (really!)
Within the same month of my new website launching, I learned that I am approved for my first ever writing grant from the Calgary Arts Development to visit the beautiful art mecca of San Miguel de Allende for a large writer’s conference where Yan Martel (Life of Pi) will be a keynote speaker, along with one of my favourite authors, Laura Esquivel (Like Water for Chocolate). It’s the pure magic and miracles I wrote of in my last post and I am to the moon, Alice!
I have a main author site, but I’ve always loved sending and giving cards and words of encouragement, love or inspiration and have wanted to create a way to do that at large. The Write Way Gift Café is the end result.
I’m excited about the whole enchilada, however, my new Postcards from God and Postcards from the Universe really warms my heart because it’s an anonymous, random act of kindness that truly moves the receiver. I’ve test driven them and written them for all kinds of reasons from the illness of a baby to the coming out of a mid-life man.
My new quote bracelets are lots of fun, but unfortunately we’ve missed the window for Christmas shipping … however, great New Year’s gift for friends and self!
It’s been so long coming that I’ve kind of surrendered the outcome of this project, but I thought I’d have some fun with a social media sharing contest.
SHARING CONTEST
Just email me at destinoex@aol.com and let me know where you’ve shared my new website link or newsletter. Could be Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Tumblr, Google+, LinkedIn, or via email. For each share, your name goes into an old-fashioned draw box.
Also, ‘like’ The Cuban Chronicles on Facebook and you’re in the draw.
First place: The quote bracelet below, a paperback copy of The Cuban Chronicles and a Postcard from God or the Universe to anyone, anywhere.
Second place: This quote bracelet, an E-book version of The Cuban Chronicles (Kindle or whatever format you wish).
Third place: This quote bracelet.
Contest closes Jan. 15th.
